Startup Tampa Bay – Nov. 8th

Startup Tampa Bay’s webcast from @BuddyBrewCoffee this week highlighted some of the many events that will take place this year during Kauffman’s Global Entrepreneurship Week. This year marks the 6th year GEW has been celebrated in Tampa Bay and every year more and more people are exposed to the breadth and depth of our grass roots tech community. The #EDI2 program created by Hillsborough County is just one example of how far we have come in recognizing and supporting technology-based economic development opportunities.

Events currently scheduled for this year’s GEW include:

GrowFL – Seminar, New Laws for Angel Investing and VC – Nov. 18th
USF Connect B.E.A.T. Startup EXPo & Tour – Nov. 19th
Co-Founders Lab @ TB WaVE – Nov. 20th
StartUp Grind Tampa Bay – Nov. 21st
TB Innovation Center Tech Talk – Nov. 22nd
Startup Weekend Tampa Bay – Friday Nov. 22nd – Sunday Nov. 24th

Startup Tampa Bay – Nov. 1st

Startup Tampa Bay weekly webcast with Commissioner @MarkSharpeFL is back. This week’s chat focused on the First Robotics Robocon event which was held at the University of Tampa on October 26th & 27th. The Tampa Bay’s Tech Community helped sponsor Robocon and we were pleased to have Terri Willingham, the Program Director of Learning Is For Everyone, join us for this webcast to recap the event.

This week we were also joined by:

Eric Odum – Florida Triple Net & NextGen TB EcoDev Group
Wit Ostrenko – CEO of MOSI
Sandra Murman – Hillsborough County Commissioner

S4 Rant from BarCamp Tampa 2013

Derived from a much longer workshop on startup strategy and messaging, this compressed session dubbed “Stupid Shit Startups Say” always draws a fun crowd at BarCamp.

This year’s rant blended in a bit on the state of the tech ecosystem and how the regional economic development leadership in Tampa Bay is or isn’t coming around to the realities of our evolving market place. The Hillsborough County EDI2 program is a good example of how government can help without becoming too involved or too invasive in the ecosystem building process.

Startup Tampa Bay – BarCamp Edition

This week the Hillsborough County webcast crew traveled to the 6th annual @BarCampTampa for an abbreviated discussion on local startup activity. This was @MarkSharpeFL ‘s second trip to BarCamp and it is clear from his comments that the grass roots tech community has emerged as a recognized contributor to our region’s technology-based economic development plan.

Mark was also featured in a video interview with @TBBJNewsroom business editor @AlexisMuellner . Join us next week when we will be back @BuddyBrewCoffee for a regular Startup Tampa round table video.

Startup Tampa Bay – Sept. 6th

The Friday morning @BuddyBrewCoffee group is back and ready for another season of productive discussions about building a stronger tech ecosystem and the need for more technology-based economic development.

The group discusses the goals and guidelines for the @HillsboroughFL #EDI2 program that was launched this summer to help co-sponsor small programs in the tech community. The EDI2 program which has been poorly reported by the local press and in press releases from some of the participating organizations is designed to assist, not fund the tech community. It is not a big government grant program to be “won” by the best application, it is simply access to small amounts of funding that can help pay for meeting space, speakers or other resources that help strengthen the startup infrastructure of the Tampa Bay tech ecosystem.
